We were delighted last spring to have Bill Hosley come to Hatfield and give his talk, “The Great River: Art and Society of the Connecticut Valley.” His presentation at the Hatfield Congregational Church was co-sponsored by the Hatfield Historical Society and the Whately Historical Society. Bill’s knowledge of, and excitement about properties and artifacts up and down the Connecticut (including Hatfield) was both extensive and contagious. He covered so much, though, it was hard to take it all in.
Where was that cool-sounding museum or the Puritan-style meetinghouse in Vermont that I wanted to visit? What local cemetery was known for having the best brownstone in the Valley? Which items did he call “miracles of survival” -- and why?
